When I started taking kelp & others, I got a huge reaction from it. My body was in real need. It felt like some one had hit every joint in my body with a sledge hammer. At the time, I did feel better, but when this happened, I stopped the kelp & it slowly went away, like in 3 days. Anyway after that, I started again & no more pain & I felt so much better overall. I have noticed in the past with other supplements that if I am very low in these things. I get a big reaction from whatever it is. The bigger the reaction, the more I need it. Iodine is a disinfectant & your body cannot produce thyroid hormones without it.
The theory of most herbalists is that low thyroid is caused by an iodine deficiency. All the ingredients in the recipe contain iodine in higher amounts. Irish moss is a kind of seaweed from the Atlantic ocean. This is what helps the thyroid get back on track, however heavy metal poisoning especially mercury can cause thryroid problems so you would want to be careful about oysters, and tuna fish especially.
The thing I will say, if there are thyroid problems, the iodine will help, but if its slow, there can be other things going on. I started taking kelp over 18 years ago & about 10yrs ago, I had to take the armour, the iodine just wasnt enough. Have your mother check into adrenal tigue. If the thyroid is effected, adrenals are, too. They go hand in hand. When I started the armour, I knew I was low, but every doctor said I was fine. I was not fine. So I tricked a doctor into giving me a Rx for it. My daughter did too. The tests they rely on do not always show what is really going on or the levels they should be looking for. Theres a good book called: hypothyroidism, the hidden illness, by: doctor. broda barnes m.d. Amazon has good, like new books.. Its very st reading.
Thyroiditis is really hard to test for. I dont want to go on drugs (I despise the pharmaceutical companies, they will do anything to make money including poisoning people by producing dangerous drugs and getting the FDA to clear them for sale) but if I do test positive, then the rest of the sufferers in my mily can get some relief. if the doctor is doing their job, and the case is strong enough, the test should turn something up. there arent enough Dr.s that really understand Thyroiditis. I have 2/3 or better of the syndrome Hashimotos is noted for, have had them from very early childhood. must eat protein, cannot handle swings in temps, etc. not fun and could shorten my lifespan.
Does anyone have a natural or home remedy for low thyroid? I have a friend who is pretty much borderline and her doctor wont put her on meds yet. Shes wanting to nip it before it does get to where she needs the meds. Besides I wouldnt mind trying something natural too for my low thyroid. By Cricketnc from Parkton, NC
Stress, illness, excessive sweating & many other things can cause you to blow in it.
I do take kelp. I get the natures way kelp caps. There is another iodine supplement called SSKI. Its a liquid & one drop supplies 19mg of iodine. Its great for cuts & sores that are hard to heal, too.
Iodoral, on the net, is larger iodine supplements. It comes in 12.5mg iodine as potassium iodide. I have low thyroid. I take armour thyroid. It is a natural supplement. I have a doctor who gives me the amount I have found to be helpful, but you can also buy it from a company from Canada. I think the company is IAS online catalog. They have a few brands that supply the same natural thing.
I am not natural remedies for low t Home Remedies for Low Thyroida human doctor, but I do use herbs for my low thyroid which got worse with each of my pregnancies. I use these in combination with a thyroid pill that has both types of thyroid hormone in it. The herbs do a pretty good job, some people have even cured themselves. This recipe is taken from the How to Herb Book, combine equal parts, parsley, black walnut powder, cayenne pepper, and Irish Moss (also known as Carageenan). I usually pulse these in a food processor, than put the mixture in capsules.
Candida over-growth caused me a lot of trouble. I went from being fine with armour, to not being able to absorb the thyroid into my body. It couldnt utilize it. Its a nightmare. Hope she gets the help she needs.
I have, along with several members of my mily, Hashimotos Thyroiditis. salt has never been the issue for me. I rarely need it and even more rarely crave it. what has helped when Ive felt off is fresh lightly steamed Broccoli. dont know what it has in it, perhaps A, but what ever I am struggling with, it straitens it out. avocado is in a lowly second place, if I cant get Brocolli. not near as quick or thorough as Broccoli. Im getting tested in Sept by an Endoctronologist, they dont have their hopes up that theyll find anything, but they are the ones to go to, not a GP.
Black Walnut contains iodine, so wouldt anything else that contained iodine help? Like ocean fish, oysters, clams,
I take 4 size 00 capsules daily. Also there are foods that low thyroid people should avoid: soy is especially bad, celiac disease (gluten intolerance) can also cause low thyroid if it goes undiagnosed. I would reccomend finding an herbalist who is knowledgeable about muscle testing, and having them help determine an exact dosage of the above recipe, further bring up silent celiac to your doctor and get a blood test! An herbalist or naturopath can help you determine if a nutritional deficiency is contributing to your problems hope this helps. I will try to check this post in case you have any further questions.
